Rachel first qualified for Boston at Tulsa’s Route 66 Marathon, organized by Chris Lieberman and his partner, Kim Hann. When Chris suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2016, Kim and his daughters stayed beside him through months of treatment and rehabilitation, advocating for his care.
Finding the care Chris needed meant traveling out of state and raising money to cover treatment. Chris, Kim and his daughters founded the Brain Injury Recovery Foundation to help other families facing those same difficulties. Through BIRF and its DEFY Neuro Rehab facility in Tulsa, they work to make support and rehabilitation more accessible.
Rachel returned to Boston five months after her own injury. Now, through her Berlin fundraiser, she is supporting BIRF’s work with people affected by brain and spinal cord injuries, their families and caregivers—from recovery programs to education and financial guidance.
